AFIS (Article DeFects Information System) from EKF Elektronik represents a particularly high performance control and tracking system for container glass manufacture.

AFIS has both the task of acquiring and concentrating data derived from all of the testing equipment, and presenting them in edited form on colour screens. Data from the hot end as well as from the cold end of each production line are made available. A central database system stores data from all of the lines and the laboratory and instantly calculates the current efficiency and many other parameters of all of the lines.

Since its introduction about 15 years ago, AFIS had been continuously widened and improved. A lot of glass container manufacturers in Europe and other countries profit from AFIS in optimizing their process quality and efficiency.

In 2000 the next genaration, iAFIS was created, combining the knowledge about glass makers requirements with modern hard- and software facilities. The 'i' stands for Internet capable, meaning all human interface and application programming uses data protocols and communication tools of the Internet. A JAVA enabled browser can be used to view all details of the manufacturing process and quality statistics. All data are available from everywhere on the local plant (Intranet), or worldwide accessable by Internet (via Secure Shell / VPN / Terminalserver etc.).

iAFIS is built by EKF using highly reliable, industrial grade computer components. Remote service and support are available by Internet, online monitoring of all hardware and software status data on customers demand, as well as software upgrades.
